The World Morgan Futurity is giving back to Morgan breeders a total of $197,300 in prize money for placings in their 2011 Futurity classes at the Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Show. Added to these jackpots are a portion of the proceeds from the annual AMHA/WMF Stallion Service Auction and from the World Morgan Futurity’s Annual Training Month and Publications Auction. These funds raised, combined with interest, donations and other WMF sponsored earning projects, gives rewards back to the Morgan breeding community for their participation.
The proceeds of the 2011 AMHA/WMF SSA to the Futurity was $25,600, and added money from the 2010 WMF Trainers and Publications Auction was $21,000 to be made available as Auction Bonus funds for any World Futurity nominated horse that was sired by an AMHA/WMF SSA participating stallion. This money also goes to reward stallion owners, mare owners and trainers. This year, 10 World Champion Futurity horses had participating sires in the 2011 AMHA-WMF SSA and were eligible for the Auction Bonus money.
Another $5,000 was added to create the 2011 SSA Auction Rewards for the class of 2013. The WMF Auction Rewards program is paid to the World Champion Futurity horses in each of the 15 Futurity classes if the sire was in that year’s AMHA/WMF Stallion Service Auction.
This year marked the third year we have offered the Auction Rewards money to eligible Futurity horses shown at the Grand National. Those foals resulting directly from the stallion services purchased at the 2007 AMHA/WMF Stallion Service Auction were eligible as yearlings, two year olds and then as three year olds in 2011. Since they did not have a winner as yearlings or two year olds, this money was carried forward to this year, and we did have a winner! The three year old stallion Stand In Tribute won a bonus of $10,000 as the direct result of the purchase of his sire’s service from the 2007 SSA. Tribute’s regular Futurity money paid him $2,000, bonus money from the SSA earned him another $2,000, plus the Auction Reward of $10,000 bringing his earnings from the show to a whopping $14,000! Susan Overstreet, of Nightmusic Farms was his breeder and Shelley and Bob Bullard from Oregon his owners, with Daryl Hopson of Tralfagar, the trainer.
The 2010 Yearling class paid a total of $34,430 to the three Yearling classes, with World Champion Yearlings earning $1,850, and Reserve World Champions earning $1,475. All three World Champion Yearlings qualified for the Auction Bonus, as all their sires were in the 2011 SSA. This added another $2,000 to their earnings, plus $1,200 to the sire of these yearlings, and $1,200 went to the nominator of each of the dams. The trainer of the winning Auction Bonus horses each received $260. The owners of the sires and dams of all three yearling classes from the World Morgan Futurity also received $500.
The class of 2009 Two Year Olds received a total of $43,605 in the five Two Year Old classes. World Champion Two Year Olds received $1,824, with Reserves earning $1,500. Three of the World Champion Two Year Olds were sired by stallions that participated in the 2011 AMHA-WMF SSA, making them eligible for the Auction Bonus. This brought an additional payout to those two year olds of $2,000, with the sires and dams each receiving $1,200 and the winning trainers $260.
The class of 2008 Three Year Olds had $46,925 in their Futurity jackpots. World Champion Three Year Olds received $2,000, and Reserve World Champions received $1,575. Monies were paid down to 10th place, as in all the WMF classes. Four horses out of the seven three year old classes earned the right to their Auction Bonus money. Again, an additional $2,000 was paid to these offspring, $1,200 to their sires, $1,200 to the dams and $260 to the trainers.
The Four Year Old Futurity Alumni program is always popular, as Futurity horses can go on to their four year old year and still win Futurity money in any Grand National or Finals class that is judged on the horse. Futurity Alumni horses competed in Pleasure Driving, Park Saddle and Harness, Hunter Pleasure, English Pleasure, In Hand, Western Pleasure, Classic Pleasure Saddle and Driving. These horses competed in Four Year Old classes, Ladies classes, Jr. Exhibitor classes, Youth classes, and Gentlemen’s classes. The Alumni Jackpot totaled $43,700 with first place horses receiving $1,700, second place receiving $1,300, on down to 10 places. An impressive 52 four year olds won Alumni money. What a great way to close out their Futurity years!
